COVID-19 is not only a pandemic and public health crisis; it has also severely affected the global economy and financial markets. In Vanuatu, COVID-19 severely affected tourism, large and small enterprises, and changed the broader landscape of Vanuatu’s economy. There is significant reduction of physical trade between Vanuatu and other countries, substantial loss of income for both the private sector and public sector, productivity decrease in state owned enterprises and private sector, and sharp fall of personal income.
The COVID-19 has created a “new normal” in which e-commerce has become the forefront of all trades.
At Vanuatu Post Ltd, as the Government’s State Own Enterprise (SOE), our board and our shareholders under the leadership of Hon. Jay Ngwele, Minister of Infrastructure and Public Utilities and Hon. Johnny Koanapo, Minister of Finance and Economic Management, we decided that to ensure that Vanuatu Post Ltd continue to generate revenue, we must innovate using the internet and encourage businesses to go online. And inorder to achieve that, we must collaborate with other stakeholders like the Ministry of Trades, the Vanuatu Chamber of Commerce, V-Lab and various players that share the same goals with us towards our e-Commerce roadmap.
Today, we are launching the Vanuatu e-Commerce Symposium logo, the banners, the concept book with background information and the e-commerce symposium program, and also we want to inform the public and media about the official date of the e-commerce which will be on the 8th and 9th of July 2021. We invite all businesses, senior high school students, strategic government departments dealing with production and trades, and members of the public to come.
We are living in the new normal and lets talk about the innovation and technology, what matters for businesses and people during this pandemic. #economy #ecommerce

The Pacific Islands Chapter of the Internet Society (PICISOC) is a chapter that represents the interests of users in the Pacific region. PICISOC focuses on regional ICT issues and development in the Pacific region and seeks to provide impartial advice to governments and the public on Internet-related matters that are relevant to Pacific Island people.
The PICISOC website is a critical tool to raise awareness of and to promote the work of the Pacific Islands Chapter in the region. It is also an essential tool for communication and collaboration between members of the PICISOC and other stakeholders where expertise, knowledge and resources can be shared.
Interested parties are invited to submit bids in response to the attached request for quote for PICISOC Website upgrade.

Solomon Islands will now have its own e-commerce online platform with the launching of Bulkshop’s e-commerce service.
The official launching of the Bulkshop’s e-commerce service is part of the larger Digital Marketplace project, a COVID-19 initiative by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) and the United Nations Development programme (UNDP) and funded by the Australian Government.
The Bulkshop online platform is set up to make it easier for customers to do their shopping and also ensure that essential goods and supplies are delivered to individuals in the event of a COVID-19 lockdown.
The development of this initiative will help to broaden the promoting and enhancing of digital channels for easy and wider access of the greater population to finance under the Solomon Islands National Financial Inclusion Strategy 3 coordinated by the Central Bank of Solomon Islands.
CBSI Governor Dr Luke Forau presented during his remarks at the launching of the Bulkshop online platform today at Heritage Park Hotel says:
“I am optimistic that Bulk-Shop’s digital marketplace (e-commerce) will induce innovation in the business sector which will complement the thriving resilience of our economy in the COVID-19 pandemic and future global emergencies.
“In addition, the value chain behind e-commerce platforms provides economic opportunities which provide jobs, something that I hope our youth entrepreneurs will explore and venture in.”
The launching of Bulkshop’s e-commerce platform is part of the Government’s efforts to develop the National Digital Economy Strategy 2021-2025 (NDES) – the roadmap for Solomon Islands in the next 5 years towards a digital economy.
“Such initiatives align to the NDES and will be a demonstration venture that will encourage the development of e-commerce activities in Solomon Islands,” Dr Forau said.
